Abstract

The article looks at the role of Scotland on the artistic works of Bavarian landscapist Carl Haag, French decorative painter Charles Fréchou, Italian artist Telemaco Signorini, and Czech artist Emil Orlik. It explores contextual factors of their work, including historical, social, and scientific. It discusses the different styles and forms of each artists as well as accounts their visits to Scotland to reflect a diversity of motives.
