Abstract

The paper looks at the attitudes of Joseph Brodsky and Czeslaw Miłosz to the Russian, Polish and English languages. Attention focuses on the two authors’ reliance on myths and stereotypes about the essential difference between Slavonic and Western languages. The paper likewise studies the attitudes of the two Nobel prize winners to each other’s language.
