Abstract

Explains that the Lone Parents and Partners Outreach Service aims to increase referrals to New Deal programmes. Looks at design, set-up and implementation issues, the characteristics of outreach customers, and customer perceptions of the Service. Finds that, for customers engaged and referred to Jobcentre Plus provision, Outreach has usefully addressed an information deficit around the support available to enter work. Suggests however that it does not provide an effective solution for engaging with large numbers of target customers. Offers recommendations.
