Abstract
This article presents an introduction to the history and nature of the art collection formed by John Menzies Campbell who donated his private collection of dental instruments, paintings and prints to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1964. The article examines his art collection - paintings and prints depicting the practice and pain of dentistry from the past to the present.
