Abstract
Hume’s music is usually considered in the context of the early 17th-century London court, but Hume was a Scot, and a professional soldier whose working life was spent mostly in north-eastern Europe and Scandinavia. This project, incorporating a performance in the Edinburgh International Festival (16 August 2012), a Radio 3 broadcast (24 August 2012) and recording launched at Glasgow's Cottier Chamber Project on 8 June 2014 explored the musical implications of Hume’s background, and cast light on his detailed and eccentric performance directions.
