Abstract

We present a general analytical model for periodic chains of elastically coupled particles subject to thermal noise and quenched disorder. Our model estimates the variance in particle spacing in the long-time limit as a function of the strength of disorder and the deterministic coupling. We apply our theory to experimental results from magnetic cross tie domain wall studies. We extract a measure of the vortex-vortex interaction in the cross tie wall and relate this to the mean and variance in vortex-vortex spacing for a cross tie wall.
