Determination of the tau-neutrino helicity

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II e⁺e⁻ storage ring we measured for the first time the τ neutrino helicity from a parity violating asymmetry in the τ decay into three charged pions. From the measured asymmetry we derived the normalized product of the axial and vector coupling constant 2g_Ag_v/ (g_A² + gV²) = 1.14±0.34_−0.17^0.34, which is in good agreement with the standard model prediction.
