Abstract
An analysis of the use of autobiography in the construction of staged representations of lesbian identity that argues for the careful negotiation of an identity that can speak back to denied subjectivity whilst resisting essentialising any 'lesbian' identity in the process. How can personal experiences be used both to insist on the right to 'be', whilst also revealing that 'being' as contingent?
