Abstract
London-based charity the Public Catalogue Foundation, the University of Glasgow's National Inventory Research Project and the BBC have been working together over the past few years to share their expertise and data in order to create two of the most ambitious, exciting and innovative heritage projects in the world. All 200,000 of the UK's publically owned oil paintings will be on the BBC-hosted 'Your Paintings' website by the end of 2012. The 'Your Paintings Tagger' is a pioneering public tagging project to create reliable descriptive metadata for 'Your Paintings'. This paper discusses the backgound, methodologies and practical issues around these projects.
