Abstract

We have previously in this column introduced the work of the International Observatory on End of Life Care (1) and in the last issue, reported on a project within the Observatory which focuses on the problem of cancer pain relief (2). In this article, we turn our attention to the development of palliative care in Russia, and include a contribution by Michael Siggs and his colleagues concerning a week of hospice celebrations held in St Petersburg during October 2003.
