Abstract
In this brief article we selectively highlight some important recent results and materials, giving particular attention to low dimensional systems where the absence of conventional long range magnetic ordering reveals an increasing range of interesting quantum magnetic effects. In almost all of these materials the spatial and or temporal spin–spin correlations are important in determining the characteristic behaviour. Recent advances in cluster chemistry and single molecule magnetism (SMM) are discussed in detail while progress in some aspects of 1D and 2D networks is also discussed.
