Abstract

In eleventh- and twelfth-century Welsh dioceses, the cult of the saints lay at the heart of the re-building and re-foundation of the bishop’s principal church and its subsequent liturgical, devotional, political, and financial life. Hardly a move was made in restructuring a bishop’s framework of operation or the constitution of his cathedral church, barely a text composed or document copied without the role and impact of a patronal saint having been carefully considered.
