Abstract

In Spring 2004, geophysical survey was undertaken at Sand, near Applecross (NG6841 4934) around the site excavated in 2000 by Scotland’s First Settlers Project. The survey was undertaken as part of a pilot project to explore the geophysical signature of Mesolithic sites. The aim of the survey was to explore the geophysical response of the shell midden deposit and to identify whether the extent of the unexcavated midden could be discerned using gradiometry and resistivity techniques.
