Abstract

Valentina Bold introduces a new version of the definitive 1959 text of Burns's 'Merry Muses of Caledonia' with a 107 page critical essay. This is the first edition to acknowledge the biographical and historical value of Burns's bawdry and treat is as a serious academic study, drawing on the 1959 edition, from manuscript, by Ferguson, Barke and Smith. For the first time, the edition includes music, edited by Bold, along with new illustrations by Bob Dewar.
