Abstract
This study of the structure of the Middle-Irish text, Acallam na Senórach, is distinguished by an innovative approach. The lengthy, frame-tale narrative is here approached as a single entity, where previous studies have focussed on individual episodes, or sub-tales, only. Two case-studies are presented which allow for the analysis of the types of relationships present between frame- and sub-tale in this text; other strucutring techniques such as the use of exempla, parallel tales, typology, negative images and a narrator's shifting perspective are noted.
