Abstract
The precise relationships present between prose and poetic passages in texts written in the medieval Celtic languages has long been debated. This study which assesses the prosimetric nature of the Middle-Irish narrative, Acallam na Senórach, centres on the notion that much of its poetry was not originally composed for the text. Three poems which might pre-date the work are considered, namely 'Na hocht caire chollaide', 'Turus acam Día hAíne' and 'Géisid cúan'. Hence, this study responds to James Carney's discussion of the two last-named poems, published in 1968.
