Abstract
An examination of the reception of the Magazin zur Erfahrungsseelenkunde by the Scottish doctor Alexander Crichton. Sir Alexander, who was physician to King George III's family and to the Zar of Russia, translated case histories from the Magazin to illustrate his own theories in his seminal work on mental illness. The subsequent reception of both the German publication and Sir Alexander's work became linked and both were influential throughout Europe.
