Abstract

This entry examines State succession to treaties, a topic that has prompted heated debate among States for decades. While State succession is sometimes regarded as a niche issue, investment tribunals have been confronted with it in a number of recent investment awards and their jurisprudence, as well as the conduct of States in relation to investment agreements, is an important element of international practice.
