Abstract

There are only a tiny fraction of British MG and YA novels centred on British Chinese characters and communities; however, these stories powerfully reflect the ways that young people are wrestling with questions of ethnicity, nationality, culture, and identity. This talk will examine how two recent novels in this field portray the nuances of hybrid diaspora identities that straddle the line between the past and the future.
