Abstract
There was infighting and discord in the main political parties. A ‘new’ opposition political party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was formed from the ruins of the MDC Alliance. It dominated opposition politics in the year and became the target of repression. There was no let-up in allegations of political repression, human rights violations and the persecution of opposition activists, CSOs, journalists and critics. Government efforts to revive the economy continued, as did ‘re-engagement’ with the West. Relations with Africa and the Global South were good. Humanitarian and socio-economic challenges did not ease.
