Abstract

Building on a residency at Glasgow Project Room in 2022, Nichola Scrutton and Zoë Strachan developed a process called ‘test-pitting’ (a term used in archaeological excavation) to create a palimpsest of sound (composed, recorded, vocal, improvised), found and composed text, and drawing, relating to ideas of inner and outer landscapes. Through The Second Life Awards, the Edwin Morgan Trust funded development of this process into a performance, Lying Over Under Another, that engages directly with Edwin Morgan’s scrapbooks held in University of Glasgow's ASC through composed and vocal sound to invoke bodies (entities) and their relation to each other. Two performances are included in this submission: live to broadcast from the CCA to FM and online radio as part of the Radiophrenia Festival in 2023 and in ASC for Doors Open Day Festival 2023.
