Abstract

Jeske et al1 gave an overview on statistical methods for network surveillance. Many applications of network surveillance in various fields of science are presented. While sequential surveillance has been successfully applied in engineering for more than 80 years, the extension to newer fields like spatio-temporal processes, image analysis and network analysis are not straightforward, because we are faced with completely new problems. In our discussion of the paper, we want to critically analyze the present state of network surveillance and describe some of the problems arising in practice.
