Abstract

In this essay I consider the unique oeuvre of pioneering queer filmmaker and artist Ulrike Ottinger. Drawing on my experience of working closely with the artist on her 2018 solo exhibition 'Still Moving', I link her distinctive way of arranging and installing artworks to the larger intellectual and visual commitments in her practice. Using concepts from the work of Michel Foucault and Édouard Glissant, I analyse the specific mobilities that animate her work, in its interests in hybridity, androgyny and worldliness. The essay was commissioned by Prof Angela McRobbie for her edited book on the artist.
