Abstract

In most TESOL courses, a heavy emphasis is placed on lesson planning and creating a detailed, prescriptive document that is followed closely to ensure successful teaching and learning. The aim of this workshop was to suggest that detailed, prescriptive lesson planning is in fact detrimental to both the language learning process and teacher development, and to propose an alternative approach - preflection - to develop more effective language teachers.
