Abstract

This chapter offers a systematic engagement with research on home and migration from the perspectives of children and young people in contexts of the Global South and North. Homemaking and experiences of belonging among migrant and refugee children and young people are a growing area of research, which has not always been foregrounded within research on home and migration more generally. One of the main questions addressed in this perspective is how to reconcile the experiences of mobility and the simultaneous need for certain levels of predictability, continuity and coherence. Showing the sustained importance of place and social relations in migrant children and youth everyday experiences, this chapter advances current debates on their participation and agency in homemaking. Their involvement in "homing" through relationships and through spatial and narrative practices is an instance of everyday life politics relevant to academic and political debates about belonging, social exclusion/ inclusion and citizenship.
