Abstract

The aims of our chapter are twofold: First to explore and critically analyse what we understand by solidarity and relate this historically to everyday grassroots resistances and solidarity initiatives with, for, and by racialised migrants, refugees, people seeking asylum, and third-sector organisations in Glasgow, Scotland; and second, to examine the relationship between austerity and immigration and how this relationship shapes both opportunities for and articulations of resistance. Focusing on anti-racist solidarity in two Glasgow neighbourhoods, we centre history, memory, time, and place as analytical lenses to help us understand everyday resistance and how the past is put to work in the present in relation to immigration regimes the era of bordering and the welfare regime in the form of austerity.
