Abstract

In this paper we examine how organizations attempt to maintain their legitimacy and repair trustworthiness after a major scandal that seriously contested their integrity. Drawing on the legitimacy and trust literatures, we examine SNC-Lavalin’s annual messages to shareholders and press releases, pre- and post- the revelation of a major scandal. Our findings suggest that the firm mainly focused more on its competence to try and repair both its legitimacy and trustworthiness.
