Abstract
Some of Robert Burns’s compositions appeared for the first time included within three series of poetry pamphlets published in Glasgow between 1796/7 and 1799. Although the publishers of these poetry sets are well known, most scholars have been cautious over identifying the printer or printers. This paper sets out to corroborate the claim made by J. C. Ewing over a hundred years ago that Robert Chapman was the Glasgow printer involved. In so doing, new evidence is brought forward, including a consideration of Chapman’s broader printing activities within the city at that time, and his ornament stock.
