Abstract

For many months, American performance artist David Franklin was shocked by a grafitti on the wall at the Barrandov tram stop in Prague that read "Czechia only for the Czechs". He literally felt the sign digging into the brains of the passing passengers there. That is why he took the liberty of adding and correcting the inscription on the wall with a democratic comment. The Czech police fined him CZK 5,000 (USD 240) for this , even though he had erased his inscription. The police told him to delete his democratic comment, but to leave the sign :Czechia only for the Czechs: on the wall. Jan Čulík talks about this remarkable experience with David Franklin. This Britské listy interview was broadcast on the "Our Region" Czech cable TV station from Friday 10 March 2023.
