Abstract

The Side Effects of Drugs Annuals form a series of volumes in which the adverse effects of drugs and adverse reactions to them are surveyed. The series supplements the contents of Meyler's Side Effects of Drugs: the International Encyclopedia of Adverse Drug Reactions and Interactions. This review of the 2011 publications on adverse reactions to drugs that act on the respiratory tract covers inhaled glucocorticoids, nasal glucocorticoids, beta2-adrenoceptor agonists (including formoterol, indacaterol, and salbutamol), anticholinergic drugs (including ipratropium bromide and tiotropium bromide) the leukotriene modifier montelukast, the phosphodiesterase type IV inhibitor roflumilast, mucolytic drugs, and the antitussive drug glaucine. It includes special reviews on inhaled glucocorticoids and pulmonary infections and adverse reactions during long-term use of long-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonists.
