Fibre structure in the myocardium, the organization of myocytes and collagen, plays a significant role in both passive and active myocardial behaviours. In this work, we developed a fibre dispersion model in myocardium based on a non-rotationally symmetric fibre distribution by taking into both the in-plane and out-of-plane dispersion, we then studied the effect of fibre dispersion on cardiac pump functions in a human left ventricular model. To exclude compress fibres for the passive response of myocardium, we employed the discrete fibre dispersion model which uses finite fibre bundles over the fibre dispersion domain, and finally, the general structural tensor was adopted when computing dispersed active tensions. Our results demonstrate that both the diastolic filling and the systolic contraction will be affected by dispersed fibres, especially in systolic contraction. Our results also highlight the necessity of using dispersed fibre models when modelling myocardial mechanics, especially when fibres are largely dispersed under pathological conditions.
