Abstract

On Sunday evening, 18 September, 2022, the Czech media broadcast a pre-recorded interview with Prime Minister Petr Fiala about the energy crisis. He talked about the capping of energy prices, his government's "umbrella against poverty" and appealed to citizens to save energy. Although very civilised, Fiala's speech was very non-specific, lacked empathy and left out a number of important facts. Can he persuade the citizens to support him and will this stop the growing voter support for populists in the country? Jan Čulík talks about this with political analyst Jiří Pehe. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 20th September 2022.
