Abstract

The recall of Boris Johnson as head of the British Conservative Party and British Prime Minister in the summer of 2022 was followed by a lengthy campaign to find his successor. The last two candidates were former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Johnson's Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who had shown a remarkable ability to radically change her views many times during her previous political "career". One commentator described them as "a corrupt banker and a village idiot". So on Monday 5 September, old-age pensioners living predominantly in the south of England, who make up the membership of the British Conservative Party elected Liz Truss as their new leader. It is a choice made by exactly 0.1 per cent of the British electorate. Bohumil Kartous talks to Jan Čulík about what that means in this Britské listy Interview, which was broadcast on the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 16th September 2022.
