Abstract

Can city-scale action help us address coupled climate and ecological crises? Many people now live in cities across the globe. Finding more sustainable ways to live in urban environments that benefit human and planetary health is essential. Internationally, city mayors, facing inaction on climate change at a national level, the city is lauded as a scale of possibility. GALLANT (Glasgow as a Living Laboratory for Accelerating Novel Transition) is a £10 million investment from the Natural Environment Research Council to enable community-level transition in coupled ecological and social issues over the next five years. Join members of GALLANTs research team at the University of Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow City Council, Professor Jaime Toney, Gillian Dick, Dr James Bonner, Professor Joao Porto de Albuquerque, Professor John Crawford and Dr Rhys Williams, as we explore city-scale action plays a role in addressing social and ecological crises. The session will be chaired by Dr Ria Dunkley, with a reflection from Head of RSA Scotland, Jaime Cooke.
