Abstract

This paper presents the carbon-based screen-printed electrodes (C-SPEs) and compares them with conventional SPEs made of Ag. The electrochemical performance of the two types of electrodes is compared in the presence of common salts found in water bodies (e.g. NaCl, NaNO 3 ) by performing the cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies. We observed that while C-SPEs stay mostly inert in salt solutions, Ag seems to interact with salts, showing faradaic and non-faradaic responses. The results show the potential for development of electrochemical sensors with sustainable materials such as carbon and their application in water quality monitoring.
