Abstract

This study consists of an analysis of textbooks as a didactic resource in language and communication, considering as a source of analysis, textbooks educational institutions, and who receive contributions from the State of Chile in 2014. The research, consequently, presents a descriptive analysis of the textbooks used in high schools to determine how and in what percentage they work in all areas of communicative competence. There is an emphasis on reading as a communicative competence over the other axes of writing, orality and research. Considering as the main purpose to increase the performance in the abilities developing communicative competence in the students; however, this is emphasized in reading; thus, leaving less work to the other areas. In general terms, the study contributes to taking part in the national curriculum evaluation, considering how this communicative competence is carried out in the textbook, because of its role in delivering educational guidelines, knowledge and content in the development of citizens. In this way, a descriptive analysis of the areas present in the communicative competence to be developed in the Chilean student population is offered.
