Abstract

What makes the Karlovy Vary Film Festival important for the Czech Republic is not the parties there or the so-called foreign "celebrities" arriving at a moment's notice, but the excellent dramaturgical work of the festival's experts, who present to the public the most interesting films that have been made internationally in the last two years. And yes, the former Czech President and now the extreme right wing activist Václav Klaus is rightly upset that the festival brings an open, cosmopolitan spirit to the Czech environment and authentically addresses the most serious and important issues of the day. Which ones? That's what Jan Čulík talks about here in this monologue from Karlovy Vary.
