Abstract
With conventional manufacturing control strategies, enterprises face difficulties in dealing with dynamic customers requirements in a global and dynamic market. In order to preeminence and vie with other competitors, the agility of enterprises in responding to rapid changes in market needs should be the ultimate competitive strategy. This paper introduces a new agent-based manufacturing systems control framework to integrate dynamic process planning and scheduling to maximise the responsiveness of manufacturing system towards changes, as a means to achieve agile manufacturing. The objectives of this framework are to cope with dynamic changes in customer requirements, to integrate process planning and production scheduling, to optimise the utilisation of manufacturing resources, and to assess alternative configurations of manufacturing systems.
