Abstract

This editorial piece introduces the background, motivation, features and focus areas of the special issue on ‘Interventions for Delivering the Triple-Bottom-Line’. In particular, the background and motivation section provides an overview of the current practical problems in delivering the triple-bottom-line that have been attempted to be addressed through this special issue, as well as the factors and limitations in the academic literature that motivated its proposal. Similarly, the features and focus areas of the special issue contributions section presents the themes and related inter-disciplinary topics that were considered by the special issue. The editorial concludes with a summary of the accepted papers in terms of the specific topics they address and their main contributions to the domain of operations management, with particular focus on how operational improvement programmes can contribute to achieve more sustainable production and services systems. The accepted papers illustrate the different practical approaches and theoretical perspectives considered by the authors to effectively deliver the triple-bottom-line.
