Abstract
For certain piecewise linear plane curves r and convex functions Φ we address the question of whether the maximal operator along Γ is of weak type Φ(L). For example, when Γ is the graph of the continuous map y for which γ(2k) = 22k and y is linear on [2k, 2k+1], k ∈ Z then the maximal operator along Γ is not of weak type L(logL)σ for any σ ∈ (0, 1/2).
