Abstract
National Grid ESO has an ambition to be able to operate the GB transmission system carbon-free by 2025. Today, NGESO depends on gas and coal plants for a range of essential ancillary services and takes actions to ensure they are online and able to provide them. To enable zero-carbon operation, zero-carbon technologies require routes to market for all of these services. In many cases, either the current technical specifications or procurement mechanisms prevent zero-carbon generators from participating. These four detailed report have been been produced as part of the Netorks-06 project. 1) Review of System and Network Issues, 2) Frequency Stability, 3) Power Electronic Devices and Fault Current, & 4) Market Needs.
