Abstract

Czech journalist Apolena Rychlíková has been nominated for the European Press Prize for an article published on the Alarm website. In this article, Rychlíková points out the hypocrisy of many Czechs who argue that the Black Lives Matter movement is "excessive" and irrelevant for the Czech Republic, since the Czech Lands never had any colonies. She says that the Roma living in the Czech Republic are the Czech Afroamericans, living as they do under shocking racial discrimination. In connection with this nomination, Jan Čulík talks to Ms Rychlíková about various aspects of journalistic work in the Czech Republic. Do we only talk to the converted? How to we approach those members of the Czech public who are ardent believers in disinformation? The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 7th May, 2021.
