Abstract

What is the situation in the Czech education system during the pandemic? Jan Čulík talks to two secondary school teachers, Josef Švéda and Jakub Žytek, and to the journalist Štefan Švec, who sees how his two small children are being taught at home via their computers. All the three interlocutors agree that 1. the pandemic will mean a drastic reduction of pupils' learning and 2. a profound deepening of learning inequalities of pupils and students from different classes in society. The pandemic has greatly increased social inequality and if the state does not realise this and will not start rectifying this problem, the Czech Republic will find itself in a very difficult situation. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 26th March 2021.
