Abstract

In this paper, we examine the impact of immigration on employment and wages of British natives in the four countries of the United Kingdom. For the analysis, we are using the Quarterly Labour Force Survey applying the Fixed effects Panel regression method. This study differs from most studies by using a regional approach as well as age groups. Our research confirms that foreign labour leads to a replacement of middle and highly skilled native workers aged between 26 and 45 in England and Northern Ireland. Predominantly negative wage effects – although minimal - are found for native employees, especially for young ones, in all regions with the smallest impact in Scotland.
