Abstract
Soliloquy is a short work for horns, written for the Rookh Quartet, which will form a part of a larger work for horns and chorus. It was performed in January 2021 as a part of the online performances in Scotland's Sound Festival. The work was generated in part by thinking of the dissolution of the near endless internal soliloquy that occurs when I refocus my attention externally, for example, whilst walking in nature, or whilst engaging in musical improvisations. Sonically, the work explores the surprisingly delicate side of this muscular instrument.
