Abstract

Blood clotting was studied with throm-boelastographic tracings in experimental psychosis induced with Deliside, in depressive neuroses and psychoses and in schizophrenia. The studies were performed in the Psychiatric Clinic and in the 3-rd Medical Clinic, Medical Academy in Krakow. The effect of neuroleptics and electroshocks on the course of hemostasis was also studied. Ninety four persons were examined and over 200 tracings were performed. Citrated plasma was used for thromboelastography. No abnormalities in blood clotting related with the kind of psychosis or depressive neurosis were stated. The increased blood clotting was found related with the appearance of fear or psychomotoric excitation (statistic analysis). Decreased clotting was related with psychomotoric showness. No effect of the patient's mood on the blood clotting was stated. Increased blood clotting was stated only among the patients with katatonic stupor. The authors suggest this phenomenon to be related with the appearance of fear. Studies on the effect of neuroleptics and intravenous niamide on the course of hemostasis did not reveal any significant changes even when large doses were applied.
