Abstract

Malaria is a major public health problem in Sudan. It causes up to 7.5 – 10 million cases and 35000 deaths every year. Artesunate plus sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine combination (AS +SP) tablets was adopted as the first line treatment for uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria since 2004. The objective of the study was to determine the pharmacokinetic parameters of Artesunate AS, its ac¬tive metabolite dihydroartemisinin (DHA), and DHA metabolite α-dihydro- artemisinin-βglucuronide α-DHAG following oral administration of Artesunate tablets in Sudanese patients with uncompli¬cated P. falciparum malaria and healthy volunteers.
