Abstract

Previous studies indicate that the motor cortex and the cortico-spinal tract contribute to the control of walking in human subjects. This paper proposes a wireless wearable, noninvasive system to monitor the coupling between EEG and EMG from active leg muscles during gait. The system is designed for the detection of the evoked potential in the motor cortical area to identify voluntary and involuntary leg movements via semantic-based inferences so that falls can be prevented.
