Abstract

In this interview, Jan Čulík and Bohumil Kartous compare the attitudes to the coronavirus crisis in the UK and in the Czech Republic. In the UK, tens of thousands of citizens have died. The country is in shock and this leads to a serious debate about the fact that the whole system of government and managing the country will need to be changed. Neoliberalism has failed and in future, politicians and citizens will have to behave differently. The Czech Republic has not been affected by the coronavirus crisis, it has had fewer than 250 deaths. As a result, there is no debate about what should happen in the post-coronavirus future. The oligarch, ruling the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš is supported by more than 30 per cent of voters so he does not need to do anything for Czech citizens. This Britské listy interview was broadcast on the Czech cable TV Regionalnitelevize.cz from Wednesday 13th May, 2020.
