Abstract

The report indicates that women business-owners are younger on average than male entrepreneurs - 43% are under 44 compared to 30% of men. Compared to their male equivalents, women entrepreneurs also have: less access to start-up capital, less management experience, are less welcome in the informal business networks that often provide vital support to small firms. The report concludes that these gender differences stifle both start-up and growth of businesses owned by women.
